Albert Arnold Farley Sr., 76, of Georgetown, Del., formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on April 27, 2018, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. He was born Aug. 9, 1942, in Burlington, N.J., to the late Albert E. Farley Jr. and Barbara Francis Van Leeuwen Farley. He lived in Sussex County for 45 years.
Farley was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and was called to active duty in the Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid (CVS-11). He was a truck driver in his younger days and then progressed to being a service line mechanic for Perdue, from which he later retired. He loved old cars and was very skilled at working on them. On the side, he worked as an auto painter for Bill Collins’ body shop for many years and was a server for Meals on Wheels.
He was a hard-worker, and a loving companion, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a caring friend.
In addition to his parents, Farley was preceded by a son, John Charles Farley; a grandson, Austin Toomey; and a brother, Robert Masssaro. He is survived by his children Albert Farley Jr. and his wife, Brenda Lee, of Bethlehem, Pa., and Denise Shaffer of Quakertown, Pa.; his grandchildren, Karen Marie Farley, Jacob Charles Farley, Matthew and Heather Schaffer, Hailey Farley, Emma Farley and Lilly Farley; his companion of more than 30 years, Diana Toomey of Georgetown; his stepchildren, Harvey Toomey and his wife, Misty, also of Georgetown, and Stacy Toomey of Laurel, Del.; and numerous step-grandchildren, Michael and Jeremey Creppon, Desiree Smith, Destiny and Kody Hickman, Cheyanne Toomey, Khristian and Mckenzie Baker, Logan Creppon, Layne Creppon and Kaelynn Rich.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to help offset medical and final expenses, either to Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., or via the GoFundMe.com account for Albert Farley.
