John P. Green Jr., 77, of Millsboro, Del., passed away peacefully, in the care of his loving family and Delaware Hospice, on Thursday, May 3, 2018. He was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Milford, Del., to the late J. Phillip Green Sr. and D. Maxine Luzier Green.
Green graduated from Millsboro High School in 1958 and served in the National Guard for six years. He was employed at Lasher Labs, Sterwin Labs and NCR, finally settling at Intervet, from which he retired in 2004 as a manager. He loved to play tennis and golf, and was an avid gardener and birdwatcher.
Green and his wife, Phyllis, were very active in the local Parkinson’s Support Group, where they met and made many great friendships with other patients and caregivers. Green rarely missed a Parkinson’s group meeting or fundraiser. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched through his love and kindness.
In addition to his parents, Green was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Darrell Coffelt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Phyllis Baker Green; two daughters, Karen Green Reed and her husband, David Noel, of Millsboro, and Terry Green Mooney and her husband, Kenny, of Hurlock, Md.; his sister, Jeni L. Coffelt of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Alyssa Reed and her husband, Mark Albert, Brittany Reed and her husband, Nick Falkenstein, Danny Mooney, Kenny Mooney III and Kaitlin Hardican and her husband, Mike; 10 great-grandchildren; his beloved canine companion, Jodi; and many loving neighbors and friends.
A celebration of Green’s life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Millsboro Fire Hall, 109 East State Street, Millsboro, Del. Interment will be private.
