Former CNN world affairs correspondent Ralph Begleiter will present “The Media in the Trump Era” at the League of Women Voters’ annual dinner meeting on May 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Fish On in Lewes. Members of the League are welcoming guests to join them to get the inside story of an era of social media and “fake news,” representatives said.
During his two decades at CNN, Begleiter was the network’s most widely-traveled reporter, covering five U.S. Secretaries of State and three presidents. At a time when CNN was the world’s only global, all-news television channel, he covered U.S. diplomacy, interviewed countless world leaders, hosted the public affairs program “Global View” and co-anchored CNN’s “International Hour.” Later, he hosted the nationally broadcast PBS program “Great Decisions.”
Begleiter has worked in 100 countries on all seven continents and has taught media-related classes for employees of the U.S. National Security Agency. At the invitation of the U.S. government, he has taught journalists in Cambodia, Thailand, Jordan, Syria and Taiwan,
Upon joining the faculty at the University of Delaware, Begleiter founded the Center for Political Communication, a leading-edge multi-disciplinary program of teaching, research and events focusing on the use of digital technology in campaigns and public affairs. He taught such courses as “Broadcast News,” “Global Media & International Politics” and “Road to the Presidency” during election years. He also created and directed the university’s Global Agenda and National Agenda public speaker programs.
Reservations for the dinner program are required and can be made before May 17 by clicking on the Eventbrite link on the League of Women Voters of Sussex County’s website at www.sussexlwv.org.
