Joyce E. Jones, 87, of Laurel, Del., and formerly of Millsboro, Del., and Wilmington, Del., passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. She was born in Laurel on Aug. 23, 1930, to the late Harrison and Leona Hollawell Rayne.
Jones received her education in Wilmington. She was a homemaker, devoted to her husband and family, and sacrificed a lot on their behalf. She was an expert at pulling her kids’ ears to keep them in line when necessary. Jones loved cats, crochet, reading and shopping. She was a wonderful cook and could make meals that were “out of this world.”
In addition to her parents, Jones was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Johnny E. Jones, in 2004, and two sisters, Josephine Cherrix and Evelyn Boyce. She is survived by five children, Sandy Whaley of Wayne, Ind., and Johnny Jones Jr., Ricky Jones and his spouse, Kim, David Jones and his wife, Linda, and Steven Jones and his wife, Brenda, all of Millsboro; eight grandchildren, Wayne, Tommy, Tirza, Samantha, Liza, David Jones II, Chelsy and Tayler; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Del., with viewing and visitation starting at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
