John William ‘Jack’ Hall Jr., 87

Members of the Millville Volunteer Fire Co. responded to school bus on fire in the parking lot of the Millville Town Center on Tuesday, April 17. The driver was reportedly making his afternoon stop at the shopping center, transporting students from Southern Delaware School of the Arts, when he noticed smoke coming from the engine and evacuated the students off the bus. There were no reported injuries, and responders noted the bus driver’s quick thinking helped avert a much-worse situation.

John William “Jack” Hall Jr., 87, died of congestive heart failure at the Salem (Va.) Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Friday, March 9, 2018. He was born July 28, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late John W. Hall Sr. and Marjorie R. (Prader) Hall. He was raised in Ocean View, Del.

In addition to his parents, Hall was also preceded in death by his wife, Florence W. (Cobb) Hall, and a younger brother, David L. Hall. Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, Dwight W. Hall, Jerome W. Hall and Scott W. Hall; his daughter, Mary Jane W. (Hall) Gardner; his sister, Sandra J. (Hall) Meeks; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Mt Ivy Christian Church, Moneta, Va., with the Rev. Steve Pasley officiating. The interment for Hall and his wife, Florence, will be held Friday, June 29, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Ocean View Presbyterian Church family gravesite, Ocean View, Del. Condolences may be sent online at
