The Lewis family — Robert and Terri, and their son, Robert — met singular misfortune on Jan. 3, as they lost their dog, Snowball, and all of their possessions to a house fire.
The Lewis home was completely destroyed.
According to Terri Lewis, the family has already begun clearing the lot.
However, the Lewises did not have any homeowners’ insurance, and they are asking the public for assistance as they seek to rebuild.
Lewis said they were hoping to place a trailer on the property and resume their lives as soon as possible.
They’re staying with relatives in the meantime, and the Red Cross has issued them a few vouchers for purchases at Wal-Mart and Food Lion.
“We’re just taking it day by day,” Lewis said.
Friends and relatives have donated a few bags of clothing.
Local businesses are collecting spare change at checkout counters — at Hocker’s, Happy Harry’s, Millville Service Center and Bank’s Wine & Spirits.
Lewis thanked them for their assistance, and the Banks family especially.
“Everybody’s being really kindhearted,” she said.
Anyone interested in making a donation should contact Lewis’ brother, Jimmy Wooters, at 537-2573.
Checks can be made out to the Lewises and mailed to Wooters at Rt. 1 Box 166, Frankford, DE 19945.
