This year, St. Patrick’s Day falls on Friday, giving green-clad revelers the chance to make the most of their holiday and carry it over into the weekend.
They can start off at The Quail in Fenwick Island’s Sunshine Plaza. On Friday, The Quail will be open at 11 a.m., serving the traditional corned beef and cabbage at an inexpensive $3.99. At Jordan’s Rooftop, on the top floor of the Fenwick Inn at 138th Street and Coastal Highway in nearby Ocean City, it’s another take on the corned beef and cabbage, at $4.99, with $1 drafts as an accompaniment. Friday night will bring full-scale St. Patrick’s Day revelry to West Fenwick, Ireland — uh, Island — with the annual extravaganza at Smitty McGee’s. On Friday, DJ Jammin Jeff will provide musical entertainment, from 4 to 8 p.m. Randy Lee Ashcraft & the Saltwater Cowboys will take over at 8 p.m. On the menu: the traditional corned beef and cabbage, at $3.17 — that’s $3.17 on March 17. It’s going to be a full day of Irish food and fun at the Cottage Café on Route 1 in Bethany Beach on March 17. From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the restaurant will feature a corned beef and cabbage special. In the bar, it’s bangers over colcannon potatoes.
According to Brent Poffenberger, “Bangers are traditional Irish pork sausage with cabbage inside.” The potatoes are also a traditional concoction, similar to standard American mashed potatoes, but with bacon, cabbage and scallions. That bar special will keep a little bit of the green in patrons’ pockets, too, at just $3.99.
The restaurant will feature Guinness and Bailey’s Irish Crème drink specials, all to the background of some live entertainment, with Chris Button and Joe Mama from 5 to 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. And Poffenberger said patrons will also be eligible for some giveaways in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
At the Den at Bear Trap Dunes, there’s more 3/17 theme for March 17, with $3.17 specials on everything Irish on the menu: corned beef and cabbage, Guinness, Smithwick’s, Irish coffee, and Bailey’s and coffee. (For more information, call (302) 537-5600.)
And, finally, for those not able to squeeze quite enough Celtic revelry into their Friday, Outriggers will move the party on to Saturday, offering live music with Bobby Burns from 2 to 7 p.m. At the bayside Route 54 location, the traditional corned beef and cabbage is joined by a ham and cabbage option.
