New Wachovia bank branch to open in Millville
For months, and maybe years, local Wachovia Bank-faithful customers have trekked – sometimes through dreadful summer traffic – to do their banking. But those customers don’t have to make the trek anymore.
A Wachovia branch opened in the Millville Town Center on Atlantic Avenue on Monday.
“We have a strong customer base and they have been referring a lot of customers,” said the Millville Branch Manager Michelle Gallagher. “We have good word-of-mouth advertising.”
Jim Baum, a regional spokesman for the company, said that many area residents were already Wachovia customers through the Rehoboth Beach branch.
“We have a substantial customer base that has had to go to Rehoboth Beach,” Baum said. “Many people appreciate that they don’t have to go there anymore.”
Gallagher, who has been with Wachovia for 25 years, after starting out as a teller, said she noticed that appreciation on a busy opening day.
“We had a lot of new business (Monday),” Gallagher said. “It was more than I expected.”
Gallagher said that four of the Millville branch’s staff members transferred from Rehoboth Beach. “People are going to see familiar faces,” she added. “A lot of people are just coming by to say hello,” she noted.
Wachovia Bank serves customers through 3,100 branches across 15 states.
Gallagher noted that many local property owners are out-of-state residents and Wachovia can offer them flexibility because it operates in so many locations.
At the 4,000-square-foot full-service Millville branch, there will be seven teller stations inside to serve commercial and personal bankers, three drive-through tellers and a drive-through ATM.
The new bank also offers investment banking opportunities, safe-deposit boxes to its customers and a night depository.
“I expect we will do well,” Gallagher said. Baum agreed, citing the expected growth in the currently small town.
