Tennis teams fall to Caesar Rodney

The Indian River boys and girls tennis programs both lost to Caesar Rodney on April 25, with neither team was able to muster a competitive victory in either match. Indian River’s girls second-doubles team, Julia Jaquette and Taylor Rosenblit, scored their team’s only point by way of forfeit.

Both Indian River boys’ doubles teams dropped the first set and were in good position to win the second set but faltered. First-doubles team of Charlie Cole and Ed Smith were up 5-3, and Tommy Reichart and Jordan Marvel were up 4-2 before the bottom fell out for both teams, and Caesar Rodney was able to win in consecutive games.

“It looked like they were shaking the rust off from the break and would be in good shape to win the third set,” Indian River boys head coach Sean Oates said.

After such an extensive holiday break, Indian River now has six days to prepare for its final stretch.

Both teams play three matches in three days, starting on May 2, in what Oates called “three very winnable matches,” before playing the season-finale against Seaford on May 8.
