This Thanksgiving weekend will mark the 12th annual Southeastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour (SEDAST), when 15 of the top artists and crafters in the state open their studios to the public.
The free tour runs this Friday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour includes veteran artists and SEDAST newcomers, and offers an array of talents, from acrylic and watercolor paintings, delicate woodturnings and magnificent glass-blowing, to intricate hand weaving and inspiring metal crafting.
Each artist in the tour has donated an original work to the “Artist in the Hat” raffle, which began with the 2000 tour. The raffle tickets cost $10 apiece and will be available at each of the artists’ studios on the tour. Proceeds from the raffle will go to help Indian River School District art education classes. In addition to the raffle, sponsors, donations and general funds have permitted SEDAST to continue throughout the years.
SEDAST was begun in 1995 by 13 artists, with more than 400 tour-goers in attendance, to raise awareness of artistic talent in the southeastern region of Sussex County. Since its start, the annual event has grown steadily, attracting original local artists and public attention from art lovers ranging from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.
