Ocean View to welcome holidays with Carols

The Town of Ocean View is hoping to spread the holiday spirit this weekend by holding the 23rd annual Carols in the Park Christmas Celebration on Friday, Dec. 8, in John West Memorial Park.

Revelers braved cold weather and enjoyed the hayride at last year’s Carols in the Park Christmas Celebration.

The evening will begin with a sing-along hayride at 5:30 p.m., followed by a visit from Santa for the younger crowd. Local steel drum orchestra “Plenty Problems” will perform in the park at 6 p.m. with caroling following at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available, as well.

“It should be a great time,” said Carols in the Park Committee Member Betty Jane Keen. “We wanted to find time away from school, and it’s not always easy to work with everybody’s schedule.”

Weather has been less than cooperative in recent outdoor events, extinguishing Frankford’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Selbyville’s Christmas parade, scheduled last Friday.

“It’s hit or miss with the weather,” admitted Keen, “but we always have a good group that comes out each year.”
