In a tight election for Ocean View Council, Richard Nippes came out on top with a narrow margin of three votes over Gordon Wood. The final count, including absentee ballots read Nippes – 112, Wood – 109 and Roxana Davis – 9. Nippes, representing District 1, will officially be sworn in to the council on the evening of Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. during Ocean View’s town council reorganization meeting and work session at the Town Hall, located at 32 West Avenue. Prior to tallying the absentee ballots, Nippes trailed Wood in the running, 100 – 102. Of the 19 absentee ballots received, 12 went to Nippes and seven favored Wood.
“I knew it would be a tight race,” Nippes said, “but I think [Gordon and I] both put up a good campaign. I hate to see things get that close, where somebody has to lose, but that’s what democracy is all about. I’m thrilled with the fact that enough people felt that I can do the job. The reality of it all has not sunk in for me yet.”
