The Senior Softball League World Series semi-finals begin at 5:30 p.m. today at the Pyle Center in Roxana.
Semi-final Game One, between the second-place team in Pool B will play the USA East team from Pool A (Milton, Pa.) on Ebbets Field.
Since the Asia-Pacific team (Bacolod City, Philippines) was unable to make the trip this year, Pool A has one less team to play, which means the District III team (Seaford, Del.) and USA South team (Morristown, Tenn.) only have one game left to play before Friday’s semi-finals.
USA East (3-0) has two days’ rest before playing their first-place semi-final game, and District III (1-1) is guaranteed a spot in the second-place Pool A game against the first-place Pool B team with a win over Canada (0-1) on Aug. 10.
The second-place Pool A team will take on the first-place team from Pool B on Ebbets Field at 8 p.m.
Pool B has a full contingent (five teams) and currently several scenarios muddle possible semi-final match ups. As of Aug. 8, USA Central (South Bend, IN) leads Pool B at 3-0, Latin America (Willemstad, Curacao) is second at 2-0, and the USA Southwest is fourth at 1-1. But those standings will have changed since the Coastal Point’s press time.
The USA Southwest, EMEA (0-2), Latin America still has two games remaining and Latin America has two tough games against USA Central and USA Southwest.
A Canadian-team (Windsor, Ontario) loss to District III sets up a horse race with USA South (0-2) to determine who plays for third and fourth place pool games from Pool A.
A USA West (0-3 Bloomington, Calif.) win over EMEA would put them in a position to play in the semi-finals and for third place.
The third- and fourth-place teams will both play on Connie Mack Field, at 8 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Up-to-date information concerning the World Series standings and semi-final match-ups can be found on the Little League Web site, at littleleague.org.
The consolation game and championship game will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
