Trendz currently specializes in haircuts, hairstyling, hair treatments, hair coloring and color corrections, perms, hair straightening, and waxing, and will soon add facials, massages, manicures and pedicures to its existing services.

“Over the past few weeks, business has been insane. We have received a tremendous number of new clients — perhaps five per day,” said Cullen. Because of the influx of new business, Cullen plans to hire at least four more people to work in the salon, including another hairstylist and a technician.

“We try to keep up with the trendy styles of today, but we can also produce classic styles if that’s what the customer is looking for. We also pride ourselves on using only premium hair-care products,” said Cullen, in describing the hairstyling and hair products that Trendz offers.

The salon itself, like Cullen’s hairstyles, is trendy. Customers are greeted with hardwood floors, peach- and apricot-colored walls, chic overhead light fixtures, and a fireplace, which adds a more personal touch to the salon.

Cullen has been an Ocean View resident since 1985 and thought that the nearby town of Millville was the ideal place to open a salon.

“I looked for a place in the Rehoboth and Dewey area, but I couldn’t find any places which offered parking. Also, none really seemed to be in a good location which would be conducive to good business. The location of Millville was perfect because it is in a good spot and has parking, and it isn’t too far from where I live,” said Cullen.

Cullen not only owns the salon, but also works there as a hairstylist alongside her assistant, Sheryl Magathan, who works two days per week.

“I started working at a salon when I was 15 years old. I was given a lot of responsibility, and was given a key to the salon. I would often get there early to get started for the day. I always liked the fact that every day at a salon is different,” said Cullen, describing how she became interested in salon work.

Trendz is open year-round, Tuesday through Saturday. Salon hours are as follows: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome.
