Millville man dies after domestic incident

A 51-year-old Millville man shot and killed himself near his home in Ocean Air Park on Sunday morning, Sept. 14, after police arrived at his home in response to reports of a domestic incident between him and his wife.

Michael Clogg, 51, allegedly assaulted his wife and fired several shotgun rounds off in the home around 7 a.m. on Sunday. Police said troopers were in the process of responding to the incident when Clogg’s wife fled from their home to her vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. They said Clogg then followed her out of the home and shot at her vehicle several times with a handgun.

Troopers arrived on the scene at that time. They grabbed the woman and whisked her away to safety. Clogg then fled the home with a gun, police said.

Troopers immediately began a search of the area, issuing public bulletins warning that Clogg was considered armed and dangerous, and asking anyone knowing his whereabouts to contact authorities. Clogg was located by police less than an hour later, in a shed approximately one block from his home.

“As officers approached the shed, Mr. Clogg shot himself,” Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh reported.

Clogg died as a result of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Whitmarsh said. County paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Clogg’s wife suffered minor injuries, none of which were a result of gunfire, Whitmarsh said. She was treated at an area hospital.
