For those who might have missed it, the new B.J.’s wholesale club in Millsboro quietly opened this past Saturday and has welcomed a packed parking lot full of people in the peak shopping days since. While the official grand-opening festivities will not be held until Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, the store is now open for business. And business is good.
“The community has really embraced us from the beginning,” said store manager Scott Anthony. “In the three months that we’ve been opening up, they’ve been very patient as we’ve been able to meet with them at our remote location [for memberships], and that support continued once the doors opened at 9 a.m. on Saturday.”
Anthony, who was born and raised in Delaware and whose parents live in the area, came to the Millsboro store via the New Castle club, #15. He said much of his management team was hired locally and the marketing team has had great success in garnering both business and individual membership accounts.
He said the team is very excited about the successful opening and what it means for the future. “The team members from the community have never seen anything like it,” he said. “It’s been one of the most successful club openings.”
The 119,500-square-foot club boats significant savings on everything from groceries, electronics and jewelry to appliances and furniture. People who normally buy packaged groceries, health and beauty items and household cleaners from the supermarket can expect savings of more than 30 percent, according to research conducted by Warehouse Club Focus in 2007. Also, according to B.J.’s representatives, it is the only warehouse club to accept all manufacturers’ coupons, for an even more significant savings.
Special features at the Millsboro Club include B.J.’s Bakery, Food Court – B.J.’s Run featuring Uno; rotisserie chicken; a full-service deli; fresh floral department; The Home Service Store; B.J.’s Operated Tire Center; B.J.’s Gas, Verizon Wireless store; B.J.’s Vacations Travel Board; lottery and ATM; B.J.’s Auto Buying Program; and custom-built sheds.
The club in Millsboro employs about 165 people and they are still currently interviewing for additional hires. It joins the New Castle and Newark B.J.’s as the third B.J.’s in the state. B.J.’s is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. BJ’s Wholesale Club is headquartered in Natick, Mass.
