The cast of ‘The Other Twelve Disciples’ is prepared for their debut at Millville United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 4.

The church held the chancel drama two years ago, as well, but this year organizers are particularly excited because there will be music, with a gospel choir and pianist. Many of the hymns are traditional Methodist hymns, which should be recognizable to most Protestants and familiar to Catholics, as well, they said.

In this, the most holy time of year for Christians, with Easter just weeks away, the story of the women is one that needs to be told, according to Marianne Smith, the drama’s director.

“People know about the men — but what they don’t know is about the women, what the women did to help Jesus and his ministry,” said director Marianne Smith.

Two of the women were mothers of Apostles. Some were healed or had their lives saved by Jesus. Some were there when he was arrested, at his trial or when he carried the cross and at his tomb.

“It’s absolutely free and everyone is welcome to attend,” said Smith. “We want to share the word and bring Easter and the Lord as close as we can to everyone.”

The drama, written by a retired minister, and based on the Bible, will showcase the 12 women each telling their stories and how they each affected Jesus’ life. The costumes will be “as period as we could possibly get,” according to Smith, and the event is free and open to the public. It will last about 75 minutes. The church, itself more than 100 years old, is on the corner of Clubhouse Road and Route 26, across from the Millville Town Hall.
