Special events, worship highlight holy week


An Ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6 a.m. at the bandstand in Bethany Beach on Sunday, April 12, organized by member churches of the Southeast Sussex Ministerium. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach.

“Clergy and laypersons from over 20 local churches will be participating in the worship service. All are welcome and encouraged to attend,” said the Rev. Alex Slonin.

Churches in the Ministerium include Antioch AME Church, Bethany Beach Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Bethel United Methodist Church, Beth’el Tabernacle Church of God, Community Lutheran Church, Dagsboro Church of God, Frankford Presbyterian Church, Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, Millville United Methodist Church, Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Roxana United Methodist Church, St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Saint George’s United Methodist Church, St. Martha’s Episcopal Church, Salem United Methodist Church, Sound United Methodist Church and Union Wesley United Methodist Church.

The individual churches themselves will also be hosting regular Easter-season services and special events.

Antioch AME Church on Main Street in Frankford, just down from the John M. Clayton Building (the old Indian River High School) has regular worship services at 11 a.m. and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

Bayshore Community Church, located at 36759 Millsboro Highway in Millsboro, will be hosting “the Jesus Painter,” Mike Lewis. They will have their regularly scheduled Sunday morning services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and Lewis will paint three paintings per service.

Beth’el Tabernacle Church of God’s regular Sunday services are at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. They are located just west of St. George’s Church in Clarksville, on Omar Road.

The Community Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Armory Road and Omar Road in Frankford, will hold their Maundy Thursday worship service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, and their Good Friday worship service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10. Summer-light service will be at 8 a.m., adult Bible study at 9 a.m. and their traditional service at 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday. For more information, visit www.clc19945.org online.

Dagsboro Church of God will be hosting an Easter-egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, and will have their normal services on Easter Sunday at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. They are located at 32224 DuPont Highway in Dagsboro. For more information, visit www.dagsborocog.org online.

Frankford Presbyterian has regular worship services at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday and Sunday school is at 10 a.m. They are located on Main Street in Frankford at the end of Thatcher Street.

Frankford United Methodist Church has regular services at 10 a.m. and is located across from the fire hall on Main Street in Frankford.

Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9. Stations of the Cross will be held in the Social Hall at 8 p.m. Their CRASH crosswalk to the beach will be held at 10 a.m. on Good Friday, April 10. Their Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Worship services will be held on Easter Sunday at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday school is at 10:45 a.m. Mariner’s Bethel is located on Central Avenue across from Delaware National Bank in Ocean View. Millville United Methodist Church will hold their praise service at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening and their traditional service at 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday. They are located at the corner of Clubhouse Road and Route 26, across from Millville Town Hall.

On Friday, April 10, the Ocean View Church of Christ will be participating in Life Chain, a peaceful prayerful stand against abortion in South Bethany. For more information, call Tish Speights at (302) 539-1638.

They will hold a sunrise service in Bethany Beach, as well, and will meet back at church for refreshments. An Easter-egg hunt for grades K through 5 will be held after the 10:30 a.m. morning worship service. The Roxana/Sound United Methodist Churches will hold their regular services on Easter Sunday. At Roxana, Adult Sunday school starts at 9:15 a.m. and Children’s Sunday school and worship starts at 10 a.m. At Sound, Sunday school is at 10 a.m. and worship is at 11:15 a.m. Roxana is located on Route 20 in Roxana, and Sound is located on Route 54 in Williamsville. St. George’s United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Route 26 and Powell Farm Road, will have a Maunday Thursday service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, and on Good Friday, the church is open from noon to 3 p.m. for reflection. Good Friday services will be held at the Roxana united Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Friday and Easter services are at 8:30 a.m. (casual) and 11 a.m. (traditional). Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m.

St. Martha’s Episcopal Church will have Good Friday Liturgy at noon on Friday, April 10, and again at 7 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be at 1 p.m. On Easter Sunday, at 8 a.m. they will have Holy Eucharist. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a choral Eucharist with bells, at 10:30 a.m. they will have an Easter-egg hunt, and at 11 a.m., choral Eucharist with bells. St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach will hold Mass at 7 p.m. on Holy Thursday, April 9, and Living Stations will be at noon on Good Friday. Venerations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 10, and Stations of the Cross will be held at 7 p.m. that night. On Saturday, April 11, the Easter vigil mass will be held at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, they will hold mass at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon in Bethany Beach.
