Ice cream social set for April 17

The Ocean View Presbyterian Church will hold its fifth annual ice cream social on Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m.

The night will feature a local group doing their rendition of the “Soggy Bottom Boys,” with music and comedy.

“It started out to as a community outreach. We decided to have an event the Friday after Easter for the families in the community, because the kids are off from school,” said organizer Liz Hobler.

Each year, the proceeds from the event go to a local mission. This year the proceeds will be going to the Justin W. Jennings Foundation. The ice cream is donated by Dumpser’s in Ocean City, Md., and the admission charge is $5 for adults. Children under 12 (accompanied by an adult) are admitted free of charge.

Hobler said the church’s oldest member will also be celebrating a birthday that day – he will be 91 – so it will be an extra-special time for all. There will also be a musical cakewalk that will send some participants home with a cake.

“It’s lots of fun,” said Hobler.
