After a months-long search, Fenwick Island this week appointed a new town manager: Wilmer E. “Win”Abbott IV, of Clayton, Del.
Abbot, originally from Wilmington/Newark area, and his wife, originally from the Lewes/Milton area, are lifelong Delawareans and have vacationed in the area since the 1970s.
Abbot has an undergraduate degree in political science and communications and is working on a master’s degree in public administration. Most recently, he worked in business development for Staples Business Advantage. He has held a seat on the Clayton Town Council since 2004.
Abbot said he was married with a family before starting college, so he went into sales to make his living. But in working with the town council in Clayton, he said he had his passion for political science and public administration reignited.
“I’m so excited and feel privileged to be making a mid-career transition like this,” said Abbot this week. “This is the kind of job that I have always wanted.”
Abbot has been active in his local churches and was a scout-master for some years. He and his wife of 27 years have three children and two grandchildren. He will start his duties in Fenwick Island on Friday, April 17.
