Since 2006, Aquatic Marine LLC has been providing lifeguard and beach services to the shores of North Bethany and other locations throughout the area. With Sussex County’s continuing development, opportunities for Aquatic Marine have been expanding. One of owner Mike Jandzen’s recent additions has been the Sunridge pool at the Bayside community, and as their second pool prepares for its opening, Jandzen has been keeping busy.
“This year,” he said, “[Bayside] has expanded our operations by giving us full management contracts for both pools, providing lifeguard services.” The Commons pool, built thus spring, gives Bayside owners and renters more poolside options through the warmer months and will open next season.
Jandzen and his staff have also established the lifeguard patrol along the private beaches north of Bethany, ensuring summertime safety.
“I established the North Bethany Beach Patrol in 2006, and it has operated as our division since then,” said Jandzen.
“I find it to be a privilege to work with Freeman Companies,” he added. “They have been a major player here in Sussex County since the early 1970’s, and I started working with them as a lifeguard when I first started. To still have an affiliation with them today, it’s an honor.”
While the marine division of Aquatic Marine handles maintenance and management services, including debris removal, dune grass planting and dune restoration, the aquatics division deals with pool services, such as pool openings, closings, winterizations and daily operations, including vacuuming, water testing and backwashing.
“We’re happy and fortunate to help showcase the new pool at Bayside,” Jandzen added. “It is a great development. There are other communities around here that have a golf course, tennis courts or a pool, but this one has it all, and it is also waterfront.”
Aquatic Marine operates the water taxi service at Bayside, as well. “It’s not our main selling point,” noted Jandzen, “but it’s a service we provide.”
To accommodate the responsibilities of Aquatic Marine, Jandzen has made additional hires.
“We carry 22 full-time seasonal employees in the summer,” he noted. “We’re involved in a lot of recreational planning, water aerobics and classes for the pool. Our company has been getting into a lot of different aspects, and we’re glad for this opportunity to be a part of the community.”
