Girls just want to do some good at Sedona

Thursday, Nov.19, from 6-10 p.m., Sedona Restaurant will be hosting their eighth annual “Girls Just Want to Have Fun Night.” The restaurant will be closed to other patrons for the event.

“I’ve been doing fundraisers for eight years. One of my friends passed away about nine years ago, so I started doing fundraisers for the Team in Training program. I did a bunch of marathons as well,” said Marian Parrott, who is the owner of Sedona Restaurant and also started the annual fundraiser.

Approximately 50 women attended the event last year and Parrott is hoping for a better turn out this year. In the past seven years, the one-night event has raised more than $22,000 for Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of Delaware Team in Training. This year one of the athletes benefiting from the fundraiser is Linda Keyser of Millville.

A donation of $60 is required to attend the event. Keep in mind that tax deduction receipts will be available. The event boasts a fabulous buffet of hors d’oeuvres and appetizers, an open bar, and a silent auction.

“The silent auction is a mixture. In past years we’ve had everything from art to gift certificates to restaurants, to vacation places to stay. They are mostly donated by local businesses but also private individuals,” said Parrott.

Attendees will also get special discounts at neighboring stores such as Japanesque, Pitter Patter, Pelican Gallery, Artful Bean, Yuppie Puppie, and Gems by the Shore. At 9 p.m. entertainment will begin with a very special guest star, who Parrott wants to keep a surprise for those attending.

“We open the doors at 6, we’ll put out a big spread of food and have an open bar. People will come in socialize, maybe have a glass of wine and then they go shopping. Food will be out all night and then at 9 we have entertainment.”

Sorry boys, the fundraiser is a women’s only event and has no age minimum.

“I think it’s a fun night for ladies to enjoy things, we gear the entertainment and we gear the shopping and all toward women. It’s something of more interest to women. We try to stick to things that are of interest to women. I also think that it’s a different dynamic when it’s just women.”

If you are interested in attending the event, try to call ahead and let them know you’ll be attending. Tickets may be purchased beforehand or at the door. If you are unable to attend but would still like to make a donation, stop by Sedona.
