IRHS Music Dept. looks for Bingo boost

The 2nd Annual Bingo Fundraiser for the Indian River High School (IRHS) Music Department will be held on Friday, March 26, at the Millville Volunteer Fire Hall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and games will start at 7 p.m.

There will be 20 games played in all, with seven Longaberger basket/item prizes, six Vera Bradley prizes and six cash prizes for winners. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, a ticket auction, a silent auction, special bingo games and raffles.

According to Ruth Ann Marvel of the Band Boosters, proceeds of the IRHS Band Bingo Fundraiser are used for such things as helping to defray the student cost of the annual band trip (this year to Myrtle Beach, S.C., April 22-26); uniforms; instruments and music needs for performances; the revitalization of the “IR Stage Band” – which dated back to the 1970s and was brought back this year with hopes of being a new tradition spreading more of IRHS’s talent throughout the community; the annual band/chorus banquet; and transportation costs associated with parades, football games and performances at schools within the district.

“It’s important,” explained Marvel, “because that’s what entices many of the kids to want to be in it,” she said, of the camaraderie that comes with playing at games and parades and performances, as well as special events such as the annual trip.

Marvel went on to explain what participants can expect on March 26.

“For first-timers to a bingo of this nature, your donation will include your participation in 20 bingo games with prizes of a Longaberger basket/item, a Vera Bradley product or $50 cash. You will also be entered for the drawing at the end of the evening for the door prize. Assorted door prizes are also given throughout the evening. This is a full night of fun, food and maybe some winning prizes to take home.”

Concessions will be open and available at 5:30 p.m. to encourage all to come early to enjoy dinner and support the band. Dinner will be served at tables by band members. Items such as Kickin’ Chicken, sausage and pepper subs, tuna salad or egg salad croissants, and hot dogs will be available, along with plenty of fresh baked treats from band parents.

Tickets cost $20 in advance or can be purchased at the door for $25. Bingo players must be 18. Marvel emphasized the need to come early to not miss dinner and encouraged those interested to purchase their tickets ahead of time.

“Please come early before it’s sold out!” she pleaded. For more information, call Marvel at (302) 732-3518.
