Newly elected Millville Mayor Gerry Hocker announced at the March town council meeting that there will be an open house at the town hall April 12, before the council meeting, from 4 to 7 p.m., for anyone interested in viewing the recently completed addition to the building.
At a council workshop in March of 2010, Greg Hastings of G.A. Hastings & Associates had presented to council, for their review, a 3D rendering and quarter-inch-scale preliminary design for the proposed addition to town hall, which had an estimated cost of $500,000.
The addition was designed to withstand 120 mph winds, so it can serve as an emergency shelter, to withstand “the storm.” Although the addition is attached to the existing building, it was to be constructed as though it were a separate unit, for safety reasons.
The addition was designed with concrete walls, trusses and a top-plate ceiling, with everything anchored down and a generator for emergency use.
At the March 2011 council meeting, Town Manager Debbie Botchie reported that the cost for the addition was “still less than $400,000.”
The addition, built by Bunting Construction, will be open to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, with the April town council meeting starting at 7 p.m. Millville Town Hall is located at 36404 Club House Road in Millville.
