Town of Bethany Beach – Public Notice
The Bethany Beach Town Council adopted the following ordinance at its meeting held on Friday, May 20, 2011.
An Ordinance Amending the Town Code of the Town of Bethany Beach to Reflect the Use of Pay Stations and Parking Permits and to Make Various Other Changes to Parking Regulations
This ordinance amends the Town Code to reflect the use of pay stations and parking permits and to make other needed changes. In particular, this ordinance clarifies that vehicle and traffic violations not paid within 14 days are subject to additional penalties. Between May 15 and September 15, paid parking is required between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the zone north of First Street (including First Street) and south of Hollywood Street (including Hollywood Street). During the same timeframe, paid parking is also required in the zone between First and Hollywood Streets (excluding both streets) between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. This ordinance includes a map further clarifying the paid parking zones and parking rates, which map may only be amended by ordinance. It is unlawful to park a vehicle in a paid parking zone without paying the appropriate fee via a parking meter, pay station, or parking permit, and vehicles must be parked within the lines designating a parking location. A parking permit or pay station receipt must be properly displayed. The Town Manager is responsible for placing pay stations and parking meters in appropriate locations, as well as clearly designating individual parking locations. Tampering with and/or defacing pay stations or parking meters is prohibited, as is using fictitious parking permits or pay station receipts or using fraudulent methods to make payment to a parking meter or pay station. Parking permits may be provided by the town and must include information pertinent to their use. This ordinance clarifies penalties for parking violations and makes other changes regarding penalties to ensure consistency with the other changes made in this ordinance. This ordinance became effective upon adoption.
