Parsons Farms Produce is now offering a fun summertime activity on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. This will be the first year they have had a corn maze and hayride.
“We haven’t set an end date. I hope to go through all the month of July and into the middle of August,” said Paul Parsons.
Entry into the maze costs $6 for adults, $4 for kids 6 or older, and children 5 or younger are admitted free of charge. To try your luck at the maze, all partrons will have to do is head out to the produce stand.
“We’re going to pick people up out in front of the produce stand, and take them on a hayride around to the back of the cornfield. They can go through the maze and they’ll end up back at the farmers’ market.”
Parsons said there will be adequate lighting outside of the maze, as well as attendants to offer assistance, but he suggested bringing flashlights.
For the maze, Parsons said the family designed and laid everything out on a grid on the 5-acre cornfield before creating it.
“A lot of people use GPS, but we went old-school,” he said.
The maze was designed so that once maze-goers have completed the maze, they’re back at the entrance of the produce stand. Parsons said the time it takes to complete the maze is completely up to each individual.
“It just depends on what path you take,” he said with a laugh. “It could take up to 40 minutes. Some people might be able to get through it in 15 or 20. If you make a lot of wrong turns, you could be in there a while.”
Parsons noted that, if people want to go through the maze during the day, they’re welcome to, but there will be no attendants or hayrides available.
This is the first weekend the maze will be open to the public, and Parsons joked that, so far, only family members have tested the maze. He added that many people seem excited about the fun weekend activity.
“It seems like most people with children are interested. They like the idea of doing it at nighttime, where people can bring their own flashlights,” he said. “It’s going to be fun for the whole family.”
