Murphy’s serves dinner, pub fare and Irish favorites


With a family-friendly dining room and well-equipped bar, Murphy’s Bar and Grill is aiming to bring an Irish kick to Selbyville.

Murphy’s Bar and Grill officially opened in August in Selbyville’s Mason Dixon Shopping Center on Route 113. Owner Sean Oates has years of restaurant experience and is now honoring his Irish heritage by naming the restaurant with his grandmother’s maiden name.

Murphy’s offers lunch, dinner and late-night tastes for steak, seafood, pub fare and classic Irish specialties, such as shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and fish and chips. The menu also includes specialty burgers and fries topped many different ways.

Irish beers on tap include Guinness, Harp and Smithwick’s, and happy hour is 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Murphy’s aims to entertain all ages, whether at dinner or happy hour.

Free family games line the dining room walls, including shuffleboard, darts, ring the bull and hook’em ring toss.

“He just wanted a way for families to come in, eat, and enjoy themselves,” said Oates’s son, Travis, who has worked more than five years in the restaurant world with his father. “And the kids could have fun without it costing a dime.”

Across the hall, adults can have fun in the pub with nightly specials and games.

Weekly events include free Texas Hold’em Mondays; Tuesday open-mic night; 50-cent chicken wing Wednesdays; Thursday bar Olympics, in which couples compete in games for a free bar tab; live bands on Friday; Saturday-night karaoke; and Sunday NFL Ticket with $1.50 drink specials, 50-cent wings and $1 chili dogs. A 55-inch high-definition TV will broadcast games.

Many regular customers and new faces are enjoying Murphy’s, said Travis Oates.
