Mountaire Farms will be hosting its eighth annual Gospel Talent Search later this month, and there’s some serious prize money on the table again this year.
According to Mountaire’s Roger Marino, “This is something we believe in — just doing the right thing in the community were we live, work, play and pray.
“It’s not about selling chicken — we’re non-branded after all, so people can’t tell when they’re buying our chicken anyway,” Marino pointed out.
Rather, it’s a good opportunity for local talent to check out the neighbors’ gospel, get some constructive criticism from the judges and maybe audition with the National Christian Choir.
Some entrants may get a chance to participate with When You Believe. The group performs at a number of benefit concerts for churches and non-profits around the area, and according to Marino, always packs the house to close out the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (Gospel Brunch).
The Gospel Talent Search takes place from March 31 through April 2, at the Bay Shore Community Church in Gumboro, but any church groups (or individuals, or duos) who want to compete will need to sign up soon.
Entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 11.
Participants can pick up forms at corporate offices on Route 24 east of Millsboro, across the street from the Mountaire plant.
Participants need to get the pastor from the church they represent to sign off.
