Fall golf tourney nearly sold out

Local golfers are already taking a swing at the rare opportunity to play the only tournament set at the brand new Bayside Resort Golf Club in its inaugural year.

With more than two weeks left before the Oct. 14 Annual Fall Golf Outing organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce, only two slots for foursomes remained. The event typically sells out in advance but has added draw this year with a shot to compete on the Jack Nicklaus Signature course.

Chamber Event Coordinator Amy Tingle was doubtful earlier this week that the remaining two slots would last past Friday. They’ll go on a first-come, first-served basis, at $600 for a team of four golfers.

Also unique to the 2005 edition of the outing is the site for the after-party and awards ceremony: the event will adjourn to Harpoon Hanna’s for the first time, with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, a live auction and a chance to win prizes.

The big prizes for the day — and bragging rights for the next year — will go to the top five foursomes for net score on the links, with additional prizes for the top team in gross score, the golfer with the longest drive and the golfer landing a ball closest to the pin.

And if any golfer’s aim proves sharp enough for a hole-in-one, they could take home a car courtesy of Boulevard Lincoln Mercury of Georgetown.

No matter how well they play, each registered golfer is entitled to a grilled lunch, goody bag and shirt, access to the beer cart and snacks at the course and use of the driving range, as well as entry into the party at Harpoon Hanna’s.

On-site registration will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at the course on Route 54 in Selbyville, with a shotgun start at noon.
