Vintage fashion show and tea event to support Justin’s Beach House

Those looking for a fun girls-day-out activity can visit Lavender & Lace Antiques this weekend, for their first Tea on the Green event. On Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m., a group of five local businesswomen are teaming up to offer an afternoon of fashion and fun.

“This is the first one that we’re doing,” said Pauline Blasena, owner of Lavender & Lace. “It’s a combination of five businesses.”

The afternoon event, which is free and open to the public, will feature tea and refreshments outside of the shop, as well as an opportunity to enjoy vintage fashions.

“We’re going to have refreshments, cakes and goodies — almost something like a high tea,” explained Blasena. “We’re also going to have a free photo opportunity where people can dress up in vintage hats and boas outside. Clare is going to have scrapbooking — make-and-take is what they call it, where people can make a card or something similar in the shop and then take them home.”

Items within the antique store will be for sale, and a portion of the day’s proceeds will benefit Justin’s Beach House, a local organization that supports and maintains a home in Bethany Beach where families with cancer can have a place of respite and enjoy some family time at the shore.

“It’s a local charity here, and we believe in it, what it does for the children and community,” said Blasena, adding that attendees may also give free-will donations.

Blasena noted that the group of women business owners, self-titled Wise Women Win, meet monthly and are members of the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce.

“The group is Paragon Auto Body, La Vita Bella Day Spa, Lavender & Lace, Clare’s Scrapbook Cover, Alterations by Barbara, Heather’s Homeworks and Miller Marketing,” said Blasena. “We decided that women in business need to unite and try to network together and pour resources together … so we can grow.”

She added that the group of women plans to hold similar events on a semi-regular basis throughout the year and that they hope the community will show their support by attending their first event.

“We’re just women working together who decided to do this and, hopefully, we’ll be doing more events for the community,” said Blasena.
