On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, along with the Town of Ocean View, will hold a private dedication of the Town’s solar carport.
In 2010, the Town of Ocean View was awarded an energy grant of $458,000 from the Delaware Energy Office — the second largest such grant awarded in the state.
Designed by engineering firm Remington, Vernick and Beach, the carport spans the east side of the parking lot of the Wallace A. Melson Municipal Building and stands 14 feet high.
“Five months into the operations of the solar array, we have now saved cumulatively in that five-month period, compared to prior year utility costs in the building, about $5,100. That’s slightly ahead of where we were to project for the full year, so I’m pleased with what’s coming in,” noted Finance Director Lee Brubaker this week.
