Christmas dinner can be Off the Hook this year

If cooking for a full house this Christmas doesn’t sound like fun, or maybe your brood is slowly getting smaller as children move away and do their own thing, why not order in? Off the Hook Market in Bethany Beach is offering ready-to-cook Christmas dinners this year, after successfully launching the idea at Thanksgiving.

Owner Steve Hagen said the response at Thanksgiving was “phenomenal,” so they are offering it again for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Dinner for eight to 10 people can be picked up at the market on Christmas Eve, from noon to 6 p.m. Hagen said that, if people are eating it that day, they can pick it up cooked, or if the meal is for Christmas Day, they can take it home oven-ready.

“Just pop it in the oven, and voila — you’re ready!” said Hagen.

People can choose between a 20-pound turkey meal for $140, a spiral ham meal for $160 or a prime rib dinner for $200.

All meals include mashed potatoes, traditional sausage stuffing, homemade gravy, foccacia bread, and a choice of two other sides, which include oyster stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, butternut squash gratin, eggplant ratatouille, German potato salad, Brussels sprouts, broccoli salad and roasted beet salad.

A là carte items are available, and they have vegetarian options.

In addition, for another $20, people can get dessert — an apple, cherry, pecan or peanut butter pie.

Off the Hook Market also has daily specials, including soups, sandwiches and salads, and dinner for four is available for $40 nightly.

On Mondays they have shortribs. On Tuesdays they offer turkey breast. Wednesday’s entrée is salmon. Thursday is Matt’s Shortrib Stroganoff. Friday is roasted chicken. Saturday is stuffed flounder, and Sunday is a chef’s selection. People can also get their choice of four sides to go with those daily specials, including broccoli salad, German potato salad, local eggplant ratatouille, marinated mushrooms, truffled orzo mac-and-cheese and marinated vegetables.

Hagen asked that, for Christmas orders, people call by Sunday, Dec. 23.
