Participants prepare before a previous Ocean to Bay Bike Tour.

On Saturday, April 20, more than 1,000 bicycles will take off from Garfield Parkway for a scenic tour of the Delaware coast.

Cyclists of all ages are being invited to participate in a 5-, 30- or 50-mile route. Completion of the ride is optional.

The Ocean to Bay Bike Tour won the 2011 Southern Delaware Tourism Recognition Award for making an outstanding and significant contribution to enrich tourism in Sussex County.

Sponsors will help keep the tour fun and safe. Atlantic General Hospital staff will provide first aid assistance, while rest stops will have restrooms, beverages and light snacks, courtesy of Beazer Homes, Bethany Beach Books, Good Earth Market, Mr. Natural Bottled Water and McCabe’s Gourmet Market.

The scenic tour ends at the Atlantic Ocean. People can wind down at a Bethany Beach Bandstand after-party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cyclists can enjoy live music, refreshments, games and more.

The ride will take place rain or shine. All participants are expected to obey all traffic laws and Delaware’s bicycle laws.

Online registration ends Sunday, April 14. Participants may check in from Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 19, at the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, located on Coastal Highway, just north of Fenwick Island Bethany Beach.

Last-minute registration may also take place on race day, from 7 to 8:30 a.m., in the PNC Bank parking lot in Bethany Beach. Cash, check, Visa and Mastercard will be accepted for registration payments. Event shirts will also be available for purchase in the bank lot, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants will receive an event shirt and goody bag. Registration costs $45 for adults, $25 for students younger than 18, and is free for children younger than 5, who won’t receive a goody bag or shirt.
