Leslie Kopp Group earns national real estate award


Leslie Kopp said the best part of her job is helping people find their dream vacation home. People from all over seek the perfect escape at the Delaware beaches.

“It’s rewarding,” Kopp said. “It’s fun.”

Her real estate team’s enthusiasm and prime location have helped the Leslie Kopp Group earn a spot in the Real Trends Top Thousand lists for at least three consecutive years.

Compiled by the Wall Street Journal and Real Trends, the 2013 Top Thousand contains four lists: the top 250 individual sales agents, as well as and sales teams by sales volume and transaction sides.

“We do all types of housing,” she noted. “Typically, our market is closer to the beach,” from Fenwick Island to Ocean View and North Bethany.

Their sales have jumped by about $20 million in each of the last few years, from $54.9 million in 2010 to $93.9 million in 2012, according to past lists.

Kopp called that increase a reflection of the overall market. “Just real estate coming back,” plus an excellent location.

“In time, that number will go up. Average sale prices will increase as the market improves,” Kopp said. “It’s coming. We’re going to see gradual improvement, not jumps.”

Interestingly, Kopp said the beach market saw a “big jump” the year after 9/11. People still wanted to vacation, but they didn’t want to travel very far from home.

Kopp is lucky enough to live and work in the Quiet Resorts, a place to which many people escape. Housing is never far from her mind, though. When on vacation herself, Kopp said she constantly looks at other houses.

“I always am trying to find ways to improve things and get more market share,” said Kopp, whose personality is “never satisfied!”

Kopp runs her own company within Long & Foster, but she doesn’t just rely on that name for promotion. After she graduated college, Kopp simply followed a suggestion that she get a Realtor’s license, and she’s had a Bethany office ever since.

What has kept Kopp in the market since 1989?

“A passion for real estate,” she said. “I like what I do. Every day is a new day, every sale a new challenge.”

Of course, she noted, the award resulted from a team effort.

“We have a fabulous group. We’re very service-oriented,” Kopp said. “A lot of people have been with me quite some time.”

Top Thousand rankings are based on surveys of previous applicants, plus information from 900 of the largest U.S. brokerage firms.

Long & Foster is the nation’s largest independent real estate company, based on transaction sides and sales volumes, according to the Real Trends 500 list. Overall, it ranked third, after franchises that are not independently or family-owned.
