After nearly six months of renovations, Millsboro’s Blue Water Grill will officially reopen its doors for business on Friday, Sept. 26, at 11:30 a.m.
The restaurant closed in March following an electrical fire that caused damage to the restaurants kitchen and ceiling.
“We did okay. Thank goodness we had insurance. We had coverage while we were closed. It was certainly not the same as sales, but it was a huge blessing,” said Jessica Wiggins, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Josh. “Six months was a long time to be closed.”
Earlier this week, the restaurant held an open house, complete with live music and a sampling of the revamped menu. Wiggins said the new menu offerings include a fresh fish board that will rotate, along with daily specials.
“We’re trying to keep it more local, fresher, and keep the prices down for our customers,” said Wiggins.
Other menu changes include a new fried sampler appetizer and a handful of new sandwiches.
“We’ve added the Skinny Italian, our daughter’s creation,” said Wiggins. “It’s roasted tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, vine-ripe tomatoes, with fresh mozzarella, pesto and a balsamic syrup. It’s a panini on ciabatta bread.”
All bread served in the restaurant will be fresh, homemade bread, she said.
“The fresh bread, he’s really excited about,” said Jessica Wiggins of her husband, who is the restaurant’s head chef. “He’s been playing with some new recipes. He came up with a delicious honey wheat bread. I think it’s going to be awesome.”
Wiggins said the bar will serve more local craft beers, and diners may enjoy a variety of homemade desserts.
Even though the restaurant was closed for half a year, Wiggins said they were able to keep approximately half of their staff.
“We’re really excited. I think the mix of our returning staff and new staff is just a great group of people… It’s quite an eclectic group. Everyone has enjoyed everyone’s company during training.”
Throughout the process, Wiggins said, her family has been well-supported by the community and the restaurant’s loyal customers.
“Everyone has been so amazing. They stop on the street or come inside if they know we’re here. They’re so excited to have us back and can’t wait for us to open. They’ve been tremendously supportive,” she said. “It’s wonderful to not have to worry about returning customers.”
The restaurant will hold a grand reopening celebration weekend Oct. 10-12.
Wiggins said everyone at Blue Water is excited to reopen and looks forward to serving the area again.
“We’re just really excited to open back up and share the exciting changes we’ve made and to see everyone again.”
