Great Pumpkin Festival rising again in Millville

Families can run around or just relax. Either way, it’ll be a free-for-all with games, rides and more at Millville’s Great Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., families can enjoy free games, pony rides, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating and more at the future site of the Millville Town Park, at 32517 Dukes Drive.

Admission is free, and live music will be performed by local band The Funsters.

“Even if you just enjoy listing to the music, we’ll have that,” said Matt Amerling, executive assistant for the Town. “There’s a good variety of things to do, especially for the kids.”

Local food vendors will sell tacos, barbecue, coffees and much more. More than 20 vendors will sell a variety of products, such as jewelry, clothing, crafts, home décor, food items, makeup and toiletries.

“It’s our way of sort of giving back to the community and showing our appreciation for them,” Amerling said.

For the local vendors, businesses and non-profits, it’s “a chance to get out there for people who might not know them,” he said.

“Overall, it’s a chance to bring the community together and bring people new to the area – sort of get them familiarized with the area. Millville is a growing town,” as more people retire or bring young families to town.

He said people are getting excited to bring their families and grandchildren to the Great Pumpkin Festival, which was canceled in previous years due to rain.

This isn’t just a Millville event, as guests have come from the likes of Delmar and Rehoboth Beach.

“It’s a fun social gathering. There’s lot’s to do,” said Amerling. “It’s funny ’cause it’s a small event compared to some towns or cities, but it’s big for the town of Millville!

Those attending the festival can also bring with them snacks and other donations for the Stockings for Soldiers drive. Anything is appreciated, “whether it’s one pack of gum or a whole bag of toiletries,” Amerling said. “Our volunteers are working very hard to put these stockings together. … They’ve got upwards of 70 stockings. With the help of the public, we just need to fill them.”

Parking is available at the park. Overflow parking, with a Black Pearl shuttle bus, will be at Millville United Methodist Church at 36405 Club House Road (across from town hall).
