Indian River High School graduate and current Salisbury University senior running back Aaron Moore was named the ECAC South Special Teams Player of the Week last week, coming off his standout performance against William Patterson on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Moore put the Sea Gulls up 7-0 in that matchup, after taking the opening kickoff return 80 yards for a touchdown.
The return TD was Moore’s first of his career and the second time that Salisbury has taken the opening kick back for a score this season — the first having come in the home opener against Albright College on Saturday, Sept. 2, on a return from sophomore wide receiver Sean Rowland.
Moore would go on to score his second touchdown on the day on a handoff from 5 yards out, to put the Sea Gulls up 63-19 in the third quarter and on their way to an eventual 77-19 victory.
On the season, after the game against William Patterson, Moore was averaging 34.4 yards per return and had three total touchdowns.
In 2015, while heading into his junior campaign, he was named co-offensive MVP, along with running back Jerome Johnson, finishing with 800 all-purpose yards, a 6.9 YPC average and 15 total touchdowns.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, Moore took three carries for 22 yards during Salisbury’s 36-14 win over Kean University. The win improved the Sea Gulls to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference headed into a road matchup against Christopher Newport (5-2, 4-2) on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m.
