‘The Baron’ to hold informational Pickleball Paddle Clinic Nov. 12

Local pickleball patriarch and “Ocean View Crew” frontman Vaughn “The Baron” Baker will lead a Pickleball Paddle Clinic at Sports at the Beach in Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 12.

A session at 4 p.m. and another beginning at 6 p.m. will be offered, with each limited to 24 participants and costing $5 to sign up. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the First State Pickleball Club.

Baker, who spent his career working with top tennis professionals while working for Wilson Sporting Goods and introducing the Prince Tennis Racket and Wimbledon Tennis Lines, now serves a representative for Pro-Lite Pickleball Paddles and has orchestrated the clinic to educate local players.

“I want new pickleball players to be able to find the best materials to fortify their game,” said Baker. “By explaining the differences in materials, and then letting them play with different types of paddles, they can determine what is best for themselves.”

The clinic will include a presentation about composite construction differences and introduce various paddles for participants to test out and compare during 90 minutes of open play.

“I might even spice up my presentation with tennis stories from the ’70s to drive home the point that the correct equipment is important,” Baker said, with a laugh.

Pro-Lite paddles will also be for sale after the event.
