The Indian River High School girls’ tennis team is going for their fifth straight Henlopen South division title this season, taking one more step toward a five-peat with a 4-1 win over Lake Forest on Tuesday, May 2.
The Indians saw wins at all three singles spots in the matchup, with sophomore Alexa Fitz leading the way at first singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Senior Marianya Lovelace earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at second singles, while sophomore Madison Galbreath rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the third-singles spot.
At first doubles, freshman Natalie Burnshaw and senior Saray Lopez pulled off a 6-1, 6-2 win, while junior Heidi Johnson and sophomore Analy Marquez took their second-doubles match to a tie-breaker set.
The win put the Indians at 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the Henlopen South division headed into their Wednesday, May 3, match against Lake Forest (after Coastal Point press time).
They’ll have three more matches after that, all on the road, before gearing up for the Henlopen Conference championships to be held at Sea Colony on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13.
