Sussex County Senior Services Inc./CHEER has announced that the grand opening for the new, 8,200 square foot CHEER Center in the Shoppes at Long Neck will be Thursday, May 19, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The formal ribbon cutting will be at 9 a.m., supported by American Legion Post 28. Nanticoke Indian tribal dancers in full regalia will perform at 11 a.m. Popular local entertainers The Bay Toners will perform at noon.
There will be a diabetes program in the afternoon and support group meetings. CHEER Home Services will be present to provide information. This CHEER program provides personal home health care aides, companion sitters, medication management assistance, housekeeping, loaned medical equipment, the emergency response system and many other services for the seniors of Sussex County.
Food, special events and tours of the new building will be ongoing all day.
There will be a strong emphasis on “wellness” at the new CHEER Center in the Shoppes at Long Neck. Expect regular offerings of various programs such as exercise (walking, aerobics, dancing, etc.), weight loss, information seminars, speakers, support groups and screenings. A fitness center has been designed into this new building, which, in the coming weeks will be equipped as funds become available.
