Armed Forces to be celebrated in Ocean City

The Love of America Committee will host a commemoration and dedication ceremony at Northside Park, Ocean City, Md. (127th Street and the bay) on Armed Forces Day — Saturday May 21.
The committee, formed from Worchester County, Md. and lower Sussex County, Del. veterans groups, has gathered representatives from the six armed forces branches — the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines.

To recognize their service, Love of America has created a memorial — a semicircular plaza of red, white and blue brick, surrounded by the six service flags.

Veterans will preside over this first-time raising of the national colors and the armed forces flags at Northside Park, followed by the memorial commemoration.

In addition, the Milford, Del. Community Band (40 members) is scheduled to perform, there will be a children’s wreath laying and a parade of veterans and civic organizations.

Various officers and Navy and Marine Corps JROTC cadets, alongside representatives from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and Marine Corps League, plan to make this a special occasion for celebrating real life heroes.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m.
