The 14th Annual Beach & Bay Cottage Tour to benefit the Friends of the South Coastal Library will be held on Wednesday & Thursday, July 27 and 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gov. Ruth Ann Minner is once again serving as the honorary chairman of this popular event.
The tour committee, which includes many new members with fresh ideas and outlooks, has been working since last summer to provide an exciting array of homes for this year’s tour. Participants will travel from South Shore Marina, where they will see two homes that sit beside the Indian River Inlet, to Fenwick Island, where they can visit a canal side home as well as two oceanside homes with spectacular beach views. Featured houses in between include a Mediterranean style home in Ocean View, a canal front home in Bethany and a home in Salt Pond. These homes vary in age, size, and architectural and furnishing styles. Visitors may tour all 10 homes on one day, or spread the viewing over the two days of the tour. There will be a number of special luncheon opportunities on tour days to provide a pleasant interlude for tour participants.
The Friends are limiting the number of tickets to be sold for the 2005 tour, and since the tour has been a sell-out since 2000, they strongly recommend that you reserve tickets early. Tickets for the July 27-28 tour are $25. Each participant will receive a special cotton tour tote bag with current copies of three magazines — Chesapeake Home, Delaware Beach Life and Waterfront Home & Design, along with the program booklet and a pair of surgical booties (donated by Beebe Medical Center) to be worn over bare feet or over shoes in all of the homes. Reservations are available now at the South Coastal Library, or tickets can be reserved by mailing a check made payable to Beach & Bay Cottage Tour to PO Box 557, Ocean View, DE 19970. Tickets may also be reserved online with a credit card at their secure Web site at www.foscl.com. Please remember that if the group is unable to mail the tickets; they may be picked up at the library starting about one week prior to the tour. Tickets will also be available mid-July at the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce and at selected local merchants. On the days of the tour, any available tickets will be at the South Coastal Library only. Children under 12 and babies are not permitted in the tour homes.
The popular Dinner for Two Raffle for 2005 will feature prizes at some of the beach area’s most popular restaurants. Winners will dine at the Den at Bear Trap Dunes, DiFebo’s, Magnolia’s, Nantuckets, The Parkway Restaurant or Sedona. For this year’s Special Art Raffle, the group is most fortunate to be offering signed, framed pieces of artwork from each of four talented local artists — Aubre Duncan, Carol Dyer, Dorothy Harrison-Braun and Laura Hickman. All raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. They will be for sale at the library early this summer and at selected homes on the days of the tour.
In addition to the sale of tickets and raffles, the contributions of donors are necessary to insure the financial success of FOSCL’s major annual fundraiser. With the plans for the expansion of the South Coastal Library closer to becoming a reality, they ask that you make an especially generous contribution to have your name listed in our program booklet, which serves as the ticket for the tour. Stop by the library or use their Web site at www.foscl.com to make your contribution. With a donation of $150 or more, donors will receive an invitation for you and a guest to attend the gala July 21 Homeowners Cocktail Reception honoring those who so graciously open their homes to make the tour possible.
The tour committee always appreciates volunteers to help as ticket sellers, hostesses, drivers or parkers. Please offer some of your time — and join in the fun of producing one of the premier events of the Bethany Beach season — by calling the Friends at 537-5828 or e-mailing email@example.com.
