EDITORIAL: Plenty on tap in area

The season is now upon us. Fine, maybe it isn’t THE season for this community, but this coming weekend gives all of us the opportunity to jump headfirst into the holiday season.

The happenings begin Friday, with the Selbyville Christmas Parade stepping off at 7 p.m. The event is organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, and will feature more than 60 entries parading through downtown Selbyville. Categories include floats, custom and antique cars and youth and adult marching bands. Bringing up the rear, to the delight of all, will be Santa Claus. Also Friday night, Ocean View hosts Carols in the Park at John West Park at 5:30 p.m.

Bethany Beach will be diving into the holiday with their annual Holiday Happenings event, with events scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is family day in Bethany, with entertainment and activities taking place at the town hall from 3 to 6 p.m. Santa Claus will maintain his busy schedule with an appearance in Bethany Beach at 4 p.m. — though his means of transportation into the event is being kept secret. Carolling will take place Saturday night. On Sunday, adults get the main stage in Bethany with the annual Adult Christmas Get-together at town hall from 3 to 6 p.m. This will be a social time, with live entertainment and refreshments.

Saturday night will be a night of both giving back to the community and having fun. The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation will be holding its annual open house event from 7 to 11 p.m. This year’s theme will be a Caribbean Christmas and will take place at Mango’s. It will feature food, drink, music and auctions to benefit the foundation’s scholarship and charitable programs.

It is a weekend to both get into the holiday spirit and help out others.
