Susannah I. Butz, 87, of Lewes, died on July 30, 2006, at home.
In Lewes, Butz enjoyed many classes at the Southern Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning and was interested in a worldwide correspondence, bridge, literature, music, nature and painting.
During World War II, she was employed in a civil service public relations capacity at the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts, U.S. Navy, Cleveland, Ohio, and at the U.S. Army Air Force Intelligence School, Harrisburg, Pa.
She was city editor of the Maple Heights Press and a reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, both in Ohio. As a volunteer, she provided public relations and publicity aid to parent-teacher associations, Girls Scouts of America, Red Cross blood collections, YMCA, garden clubs, AARP, Meals-on-Wheels, Pittsburg Symphony East, and Republican and church organizations.
The widow of George A. Butz, she is survived by a daughter, Ruth Ruggiero; son-in-law, Charles Ruggiero; son, Brian C. Butz; and grandchildren Charles and Sarah Ruggiero. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Gerald, and a brother, James Rohm. Her cremated remains will be buried with a private graveside ceremony at an ancestral country churchyard in Washington County, Pa.
