James F. “Jim” Burnside Jr., 78, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at Berlin Nursing Home in Berlin, Md.
He was a retired funeral director with Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, serving the Baltimore City area. After relocating to Delaware, he was a part-time licensed funeral director with Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck, Ocean View and Frankford. Burnside was a veteran of World War II serving the United States Navy. He was a member of the Boumi Temple Shrine, Order of Jesters and the Masonic Lodge Doric #124, all of Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Cynthia Remington; two grandchildren, Heather Burnside and Capt. Dawn Fitzgerald of the U.S. Air Force; a sister, M. Deloris Stevens; two nieces, Leslie Ann Reilly and Gale Lynn Crowell; and a nephew, Lester B. Stevens III.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva E. Burnside, on July 30, 2006; and a son, James F. Burnside IV.
Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, Oct. 16, at the Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 100th St., Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Md. Entombment will be private in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
