Joseph W. Mauro, 76, of Millsboro, formerly of Aston Township, Pa, died surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Chester, Pa., son of the late George and Rose (Vail) Mauro. He attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Chester High School. Joseph retired from Scott Paper Co. in Chester in 1992 after 38 years of service and moved to Delaware. He was a past fire chief of Leedom Estates in Ridley Township, Delaware County, Pa., a 3rd degree with the Knights of Columbus and a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard, where he served as Eucharistic minister.
He was a founding member of the Nassau Swim Club in Ridley Township, the past president of the Nautical Sounds Barber Shop and enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many years throughout the various communities in which he lived. He was a former Mummer and loved to do the Mummer Strut and was a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center Chorus and master of ceremonies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56.5 years, Marie (Grieco) Mauro; two daughters, Donna Rottenberk and her husband Daniel, Joann Raport and her husband Lee; five grandchildren, Danielle Deady and husband Frank, Kevin Raport, Devon Bauman and husband Robert, Joelle Raport and Leigh-Anne Raport.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard. Friends may call Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road, in Long Neck. Graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.
