Aubrey Phillips Murray, 84, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006.
Murray enjoyed a long and accomplished life, including: Partner of Collis and Ryan Gas Co., past president of the Delmarva Gas Association, past vice-chairman of Millsboro Board of Sussex Trust Co., past advancement chairman Delmarva Council Boy Scouts of America and past president Millsboro Chapter of the American Field Service. He was most proud that his son Randy was an Eagle Scout.
At one time, he served as a vestryman of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church. He was a life member of American Legion Post 28, life member of Sons of the American Revolution, life member of American Legion Post 22 and a life member of VFW Post #7422.
Murray was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Air Force in the South Pacific as an engineer gunner on the B-24 Liberator Bomber. He also served in the occupation of Japan.
Murray authored and published four books, “Rambling Around Millsboro,” “Millsboro Honor Roll,” “Small Town USA,” and “Oak Orchard—Riverdale—Long Neck.” He also co-wrote with his wife “Magyar Lace.”
He is survived by his bride, Helen Magyari Murray, and a son, Randy Kevin Murray, and daughter-in-law Sharyn. He is also survived by a brother, Millard F. Murray III. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard F. and Beatrice A. Murray.
Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, State Street, Millsboro, with a viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro. Interment will be at Millsboro Cemetery.
