Larry “Gat” Mims, 53, formerly of Clanton, Ala., and Bear, Del., passed away peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at home, after battling cancer.
Mims worked as a lumberjack from a young age, loving the outdoors and a good, hard, honest-day’s work with his partner and son-in-law, Mike Payes. He was happiest when spending time with his family and planting his garden.
He is survived by his children, Tamara Mims and Ashley Mims of Pascagoula, Miss., Susan Mims and Molly Payes of Bear, Del., and Rachel Mims of Clanton, Ala.; brothers Charles, Howard, Renee and Douglas Mims of Douglasville, Georgia; four granddaughters, Karli, Mollie, Rileigh and Martey; and his former wife, friend and caregiver in his recent illness, Mary Mims.
The family said they would like to thank Delaware Hospice for their invaluable help and support since May 2006.
Services were scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. Interment was at Millsboro Cemetery in Millsboro.
