John M. Burford, 74, of Lewes and Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at his home in Spring Hill.
He was a retired Baltimore City police officer, after 30 years of service, a veteran of the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale, and Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie M. Burford; daughters, Deborah Schaier of Spring Hill, Fla., Linda Zubrowski of Lewes; brothers, Jessie and David, Clay and Jerry Burford, both of Ohio, Sherman Burford of Alabama, sisters, Mary Lou Warren of California, Nora Rothermel of Florida, Frances West of Texas, Sally Jackenheimer of Ohio, Christine Mender of Wisconsin, Sue Burford of Texas; and grandchildren Michael J., Daniel M. and Scott R. He was predeceased by his parents, Clay and Tressie (Legg) Burford.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard, with interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South in Millsboro.
