Lawrence Smart, 88, of Selbyville, formerly of Long Island, N.Y., passed away at his home on Friday, Feb. 22, 2007. He was a stocker for the warehouses of Daving Paper Company, retiring in 1985 after 27 years of service. Smart was a deacon at St. John’s Second Baptist Church. He loved fishing and gardening.
Smart was preceded in death by his parents, Henry “Doc” and Anna Belle Mobley Smart; a daughter, Lorraine Smart; three brothers, Henry, Thomas and James; and a sister, Anne. He is survived by his wife, Fannie O. Smart; four sons, Jerry L. Thomas and wife Carmelita of Brooklyn, N.Y., Christopher L. Thomas and wife Charlene of Winter Haven, Fla., William G. Thomas of North Babylon, N.Y., Michael K. Thomas of Bay Shore, N.Y.; five daughters, Christine S. Calhoun of Colonial Heights, Va., Claudette L. Brantley of Lindenhurst, N.J., Alice E. Norris of Richmond, Va., Patricia A. Kearse and husband Bradley of Dagsboro; 20 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
Services were scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, with interment at St. John’s Second Baptist Church Cemetery.
